Ring Ring

Ring Ring is the debut studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA. The title track, "Ring Ring", was one of their biggest songs ever released.


History[]

March 1972 - The Benny & Bjorn track 'Santa Rosa' is recorded. Althought Frida and Agnetha do not appear on the recording, the song is later issued credit to all four members. The same is true on the 1969 recording 'She's My Kind of Girl', is issued on the international versions of the Ring Ring album.

March 29 - The first true ABBA songs are recorded: 'People Need Love' and 'Merry-Go-Round'.

May - The first ABBA singles are released: 'People Need Love' and 'Merry-Go-Round' are credited to Benny & Bjorn and Frida & Agnetha.

October 17 - First recorded session for the Ring Ring album. 'People Need Love', recorded in March 1972, is also included on the album.

November - Single release: He Is Your Brother/Santa Rosa, credited to Benny, Bjorn, Frida, and Agnetha.

November 18 - Benny & Bjorn, Frida & Agnetha perform 'Santa Rosa at the World Popular Song Fesival in Tokyo, Japan.

January 6, 1973 - Appearence on the West German television program Disco, the groups first television job outside Scandinavia. Agnetha, who was pregnant at the time, stayed home and was replaced by Inger Brundin, a friend of Frida.

February 10 - Benny, Bjorn, Frida, and Agnetha participate in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. They performed 'Ring Ring' and finished third.

February 14 - Single release: Ring Ring (bara du slog en signal) [Swedish Version]/Ah, vilka tider, credited by Benny, Bjorn, Frida, and Agnetha.

February 19 - Single release: Ring Ring/She's My Kind of Girl, credited by Benny, Bjorn, Frida, and Agnetha.

March 15 - Recording sessions for the Ring Ring album conclude.

March 26 - LP release: Ring Ring, credited to Benny, Bjorn, Frida, and Agnetha.

June - Single release: Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough)/ I Am Just A Girl, credited to Benny, Bjorn, Anni-Frid, and Agnetha.

June 15 - Bjorn, Benny, Frida, and Agnetha embark on a tour of Sweden's open-air folkparks ("people's parks"), kicking off with concerts in the towns of Gothenburg, Lidkoping and Anderstorp. The tour consists of a reported 80 shows and concludes in Malmo on September 9th.

July - Recording of the Spanish and German versions of 'Ring Ring' along with 'Wer im Wartesaal der Liebe Steht' (a German version of 'Another Town Another Train').
